لم تلقَ عقيدة أبي حنيفة ما تستحق من اهتمام، لأنها تنتمي إلى مرحلة بدايات علم الكلام، وهي فترة تاريخية اتسمت آراء ومواقف روادها بقدر كبير من الضبابية بسبب ندرة التوثيق، فتم إعادة صياغة مضامينها وفق مقتضيات الواقع الاجتماعي والسياسي الذي ساد مع بداية عصر التدوين، لذلك جاءت الصورة كما رسمتها أقلام القدامى من أصحاب المصنَّفات التاريخية متضاربة المعالم، اعتنى البعض بتزويقها وسعى البعض الآخر إلى تشويهها.
انسحبت هذه الصورة على كتاب الفقه الأكبر الذي يحتوي على ما به تترجح شكوك المشككين في صحة نسبته إلى أبي حنيفة.
إن هذه الأبعاد الإشكالية المتعلقة بـ الفقه الأكبر، وهذا الإهمال الذي ظلت شروحه بمقتضاه مجهولة أو تكاد، كانت أسباباً أولية ساهمت في اختيارنا أصول الدين من خلال مجموعة شروح الفقه الأكبر موضوعاً للبحث والدراسة. ولقد دعّم هذا الاختيار يقيننا بما لعلم الكلام من أهمية تتصل بالمدارات التي تحلِّق فيها مسائله، أي محاولة الإجابة عن الأسئلة الوجودية الكبرى التي تتعلق بالله والإنسان والعلاقات القائمة بينهما.
