إن علوم الشريعة لها من الأهمية المكانة العظمى، والمنزلة العليا إذ بتحقيقها يحصل العبد على خيري الدنيا والآخرة، ولما كان علم أصول الفقه يعتبر قاعدة الشرع إذ هو الأصل الذي يُردّ إليه كل فرع كان حرص علماء الأمة على تصنيفه وبيانه وشرحه شديداً، فوضعوا التآليف واعتنوا بشرحه وبيانه للناس، وممن ألف في علم الأصول العلامة علي بن محمد بن عباس البعلي المشهور بابن اللحام، فوضع كتابه المختصر في أصول الفقه وهو كتاب حوى مسائل أصول الفقه بأخصر عبارة، إلا أن عباراته لوجازتها كانت من الصعوبة بمكان ولا سيما على المبتدئين في دراسة علم أصول الفقه.
وقد وفق الله تعالى شيخنا الدكتور سعد بن ناصر الشثري حفظه الله لشرح هذا الكتاب شرحاً وافياً ففك رموزه، وبين عباراته بأوضح أسلوب، وساق العديد من الأمثلة مما زاد الشرح وضوحاً وبياناً، ولقد كان هذا الشرح المبارك في جامع القدس بحي الروابي في مدينة الرياض العامرة - حرسها الله تعالى - ولأهمية هذا الشرح رغبت في جعله مؤلفاً رجاء أن ينفع الله تعالى به مكتوباً كما نفع بأصله مسموعاً فأعانني شيخنا على ذلك، فجزاه الله خيراً، ثم إني قمت بتخريج شواهده واكتفيت في الغالب بالصحيحين إذا كان الحديث فيهما، وترجمت للأعلام بتراجم موجزة، ووضعت فهارس عامة للكتاب.
