تلقت الأمة كتاب الله وسنة رسوله صلى الله عليه وسلم علماً وعملاً، وسار الناس في ظل هذين الأصلين في حياة الرسول صلى الله عليه وسلم، وفي عهد الخلفاء الراشدين، وفي عصر الصحابة والتابعين، حتى توالت الفتوحات وتمصَّرت الأمصار، ودخل في الإسلام أمم وجماعات، واتسعت ميادين الحياة، ووُجدت أمور لم تكن من قبل دفعت العلماء للإجتهاد في إيجاد أحكام لها ومعرفة أحكامها.
ومعلوم أن النصوص لن تُلاحق الأحداث، فكان على المجتهدين أن يبحثوا عن عمومات وكليات تندرج فيها تلك الجزئيات، وكان ذلك مبيناً على الإجتهاد والإستنباط، ومعتمداً في ذلك على المَلَكة والفكر والتحصيل ومعرفة مدارك النصوص.
اطلع المؤلف على شرح العلامة "ابن العيني" وجده شرحاً مختصراً مفيداً، عظيم النفع سهل العبارة، يبسط عبارات متن المنار حتى يظن قارئه أنه أمام أستاذ يشرح العبارة ويوضح الفكرة ويضرب الأمثلة ويُذلل المصاعب، وقد لقي هذا الشرح القبول من العلما، فأقبلوا على دراسته وتدريسه ولم توجد نسخة محقَّقة بين أيديهم، لذلك قام الأستاذ "علاء الطواف" بتحقيقه خدمة للعلماء الذين يدرّسونه والطلبة الذين يأخذون عنهم بإخراج هذا الكتاب بهذه الحُلَّة.
وكان منهجه في تحقيق الكتاب قدَّم للكتاب، قسم الكتاب إلى أبواب وفصول ومباحث، فصل المتن عن الشرح تسهيلاً للقارئ، عنون للأبحاث وذكر عناوين فرعية تساعد على فهم البحث، ترجم للمؤلف والشارح رحمهما الله ترجمة موجزة، ذكر بعض شروح المنار، خرَّج الآيات القرآنية، خرَّج الأحاديث النبوية الشريفة، ضبط الألفاظ التي تحتاج إلى ضبط، ترجم للأعلام غير المشهورين الوارد ذكرهم في الكتاب، ترجم للفِرَق الوارد ذكرها في الكتاب، وضع علامات الترقيم، وقد اعتمد في عمله على ثلاث نسخ: مخطوطتان، وثالثة مطبوعة في تركية على هامش شرح "ابن مالك".
