تكتسب النصوص التي بين أيدينا أهمية كبيرة لسبب بسيط وحيوي، وهي أنها تتضمن الكثير من النصوص الغنائية الجديدة أو المتفردة، أي تلك التي لم يسبق أن ظهرت في مصادر مكتوبة ومعروفة، والفضل في هذه الميزة يعود - بالتأكيد - إلى الباحثة صاحبة الهمة د. نهى قسيس نفل التي جهدت وكدت خلال التسعينيات من القرن الماضي وهي تجمع هذه المادة من أفواه أصحابها وقائليها مستغلة زياراتها للضفة الغربية خلال وجودها في أمريكا وعلى مدى أكثر من عشرين عاماً، وقد استغلت الباحثة كل المناسبات المتاحة لجمع ما يمكن جمعه من النصوص، وهذه بحد ذاتها ميزة أمدتنا بالكثير من النصوص بتلقائيتها وحيويتها.
ومع أن النصوص التي جمعتها الباحثة كانت تكفي لتقديم هذا الكتاب التوثيقي للنشر بما فيه من نصوص جديدة، إلا أننا ارتأينا - وبفضل بعض النصائح - أن نعمل على تعزيزها وإستكمالها ببعض النصوص المنشورة في بعض المراجع ليتم للقارئ والباحث إستكمال صورة أشمل عن ألوان الغناء الفلسطيني وموضوعاته، على أننا لم نهدف إلى تقديم عمل مرجعي شامل، وقمنا كذلك بتثبيت بعض الشروحات والمقدمات وتفسير بعض الكلمات أو العادات والتقاليد الشعبية ليتم للقارئ تمثل الأجواء الإجتماعية العامة المحيطة بالنص وفهم بعض تعبيراته الغامضة وليتسنى له كذلك التمتع بالنص وجماليته التعبيرية واللغوية والفنية.
