عندها نجد أنفسنا قد رفضنا الحاضر وعشنا في الماضي وهل نحافظ على استخدامها القديم أم نهجرها ولا نستخدمها بل نصونها فقط؟ إلا أن هذا قد يعرضها للكثير من الأضرار مما يتسبب فق فقدانها للكثير من قيمتها التراثية مع مرور الزمن، ولكن ماذا لو حافظنا على صورتها الفيزياوية وحورنا في فضاءاتها بما يعيدها للحياة في هذا العصر بوظيفة متواءمة معه؟
هنا سنجعل من عمارتنا الموروثة متوائمة مع العصر تنبض بالحياة، خصوصاً وأن الموروث المعماري والعمراني الحضري يتعرض إلى التناقص المستمر بسبب الضغوط العمرانية الناتجة عن التوسع العمراني السريع الذي زحف على الأحياء والأبنية التراثية، ورغن تنامي الوعي التراثي إلا أن هناك عدم وضوح أو فهم لما يجب أن نحافظ عليه، ولماذا محافظ عليه وكيف؟ وهذا يؤكد الراي في أن الدعوة للحفاظ على التراث المعماري والعمراني ليست إبقاء للموروثات جامدة بعيدة عن عصرنا الذي نعيشه بل هي إحياء للتراث بما يجعله متجاوباً مع احتياجات ومتطلبات العصر.
