ثمة شعرٌ لم يشتهر شهرة المدح أو الرثاء، ولا الوصف أو الغزل، وسوى ذلك من أغراض شعرية، هو شعر الإخوانيات، أي الشعر الذي يتبادله الإخوان فيما بينهم، والمقصود بالإخوان في هذا المقام، يكاد يكون وقفاً على الشعراء الذين تجمعهم رابطة الصداقة التي هي بمثابة الأخوّة بحيث أن أحدهم قد يطري نتاج شعر الآخر كتابةً، أو إلقاءً في محفل أو منتدى أدبي أو شعري، وهذا ما يعرف بالتقريظ ...
ولأن شعر الإخوانيات يشكل عاملاً مهماً من عوامل ازدهار الثقافة، اهتم مؤلف الكتاب الأستاذ يحي شامي بإحياء هذا التراث الجميل وأعطاه حقه من الدراسة فجمع وثائق أجمل الأشعار، وفي هذا يقول "رغبة مني في حفظ وإحياء وإغناء تراثنا العاملي الثقافي، بادرت إلى جمع شعري الذي كنت قرظت به عدداً من الدواوين الشعرية، والكتب الأدبية أو التاريخية، المهداة إليّ. هذا فضلاً عن جمع شعري الآخر الذي كنت تطارحته مع عدد من الزملاء أو الأصدقاء الإخوان من الشعراء، فكان هذا الديوان الذي أضعه بين يديك، عزيزي القارىء، متخذاً إسم (العِلّية) إحدى قصائده عنواناً له، آملاً أن يحذوا الشعراء الآخرون حذوي فيتوفروا على جمع تقريظاتهم ومطارحاتهم الشعرية في دواوين مستقلة، تضاف إلى مخزون تراثنا الشعري العاملي الذي هو الوجه الآخر لتلك اللذة التي قد نجدها ونحن نستمع لمحادثة الرجال، هذه المحادثة التي كان الفضل بن سهل نبّه عليها الخليفة المأمون لمّا قال له: وأين أنت، يا أمير المؤمنين، من محادثة الرجال؟ فردّ المأمون قائلاً: نعم، إنها أولى اللذات ...".
وعليه، انتظم الكتاب تحت ثلاثة عناوين رئيسة ضمت القصائد وهي 1- تقريظات، 2- محافل ومنتديات، 3- مطارحات.
