يضم الكتاب وقائع المؤتمر المنعقد في جامعة سيدة اللويزة في 24 و25 آذار من العام 2000 وذلك للبحث من المفاوضات التي كانت قائمة في ذلك الوقت بين لبنان وإسرائيل. حيث طرحت عدة نقاط تساؤلات حول هذه المفاوضات: هل تجري؟ كيف؟ متى؟ من يفاوض من؟ وعلى ماذا نفاوض" وقد تم البحث في هذه النقاط برصانة علمية وبجدية أكاديمية وحوار معمق. وقد تم في هذا الكتاب إدراج تلك الدراسات والأبحاث والتوصيات في محاولة لتعميم فائدة هذا المؤتمر على نطاق أوسع.
بعد درس نتائج التحقيق عن رأي الشباب الجامعي حول السلام في لبنان والعلاقات الإقليمية، طرح المؤتمر الإشكاليات الآتية:
- هل لبنان (الرسمي والشعبي) مؤهل للدخول في السلام الدائم: على مستوى الوفاق الوطني، على مستوى الديناميكية الثقافية الإجتماعية الراهنة، على مستوى الحركة الإقتصادية؟
- هل نفاوض إسرائيل، وكيف؟
- على ماذا نفاوض مع إسرائيل: في ملف الحدود والأمن، في ملف المياه، في الملف الفلسطيني؟
- شروط السلام الدائم والشامل ومخاطره: هل من علاقات ممكنة مع إسرائيل على المستويات الآتية: الثقافي - الديني، والسياسي والديبلوماسي والاقتصادي؟
- السلام في لبنان وانعكاساته الخارجية.
يختتم الكتاب بملخص مرفق بتوصيات.
