إننا مع حرية الثقافة بإطلاق، فدون جو من الحرية، وبغير المناخ الذي يضمن التعبير بجهارة الصوت، لا يمكن أن تزدهر الثقافة ولا أن تنضج العملية الثقافية، أو ننتج أدباً وفناً.
هذا من حيث المبدأ، ونحن نتمسك بهذا المبدأ قولاً وتطبيقاً، وقد صاغه سيادة الرئيس "الراحل" حافظ الأسد بعبارة مشهورة هي "لا رقابة على الفكر سوى رقابة الضمير" وفي ضوء هذا الشعار كنا ننتج الثقافة وننشرها ونطورها في الكتاب والمسرح والسينما والآثار والمراكز الثقافية، وكذلك في التعامل مع المثقفين والفنانين، في كل ما له صلة بوزارة الثقافة.
وقد سبق أن قلت إنه لا توجد في سورية "جدانوفية" ولا يمكن أن توجد، ما دام هذا إيماننا، ونظرة على لائحة الكتب التي تصدرها، وعلى الدوريات الصادرة عن وزارتنا، تؤكد هذه الحقيقة.
السياسة يجب ألا تطغى على الثقافة، حتى في مجال الصياغة الأدبية والفنية، دورها أن توسع أفق النظرة، وتشكل القناعة القومية والوطنية، وترسي مفهوماً كفاحياً في الناس، وهي بذلك تخلق نضجاً في الذات الإبداعية التي تعكس كل أشياء الوجود، في العمل الأدبي أو الفني، وفي وضوء هذا فإن السياسة لا تتعارض مع الثقافة، ولا مع الإبداع، ولا تكون أيضاً صراخاً وشعارات، لأن الصراخ يقتل الإبداع.
