إن عبادة الله عز وجل هي الغاية التي خلق الإنسان من أجلها، ولأجلها أرسل الله الرسل وأنزل عليهم الكتب، فعبـادة الله وحـده هـي مهمـة الإنسان الأولى في الوجود، وهي العهد القديم الذي أخذه الله تعالى على بني آدموالتكليف بالعبادات لازم للإنسان حتى يلحق بربـه، لا يسقط عنـه بسمـو الروح، أو بالنبوة والرسالة، وأعظم العبادات التي كُلِّف الإنسان بها هي الأركان التي بني عليها الإسلام، واتخذها شعائرَ مميزة له، وهي العبادات الأربع المعروفة (الصلاة والصيام والزكاة والحج) وما يلحق بها من (العمرة، والاعتكاف، وقراءة القرآن، والدعاء، والأذكار، والأضحية، والصدقة الجارية (الوقف) ونحو ذلك).
فهذه العبادات شعائر تعبدية تؤخذ أوصافها وأشكالها بالصورة التي شرعها الله تعالى، وبالكيفية التي ارتضاها، لا بما وضعه الناس، فالشارع وحده هو الذي عيّن لها مواقيت ومقادير وكيفيات لا مجال فيها للتبديل أو التعديل، أي أن هذه العبادات الشعائرية تمتاز عن المعاملات بأن أحكامها توقيفية، فلا تُشْرع إلا بنص، ولا تؤدَّى إلا بطريـق الاتِّباع للشرع، ولذلك فإن هذه العبادات يُقتصر فيها على النصوص، ولا يتصرف فيها بأنواع الأقيسة والآراء، ولذلك لا مجال فيها لحكم القانون الوضعي أو للعقل البشري إلا بفهم النص ومعرفة حكم الله فيه، لأنها محددة من جهة الأنبياء لا يُدْرِك وجهَ تأثيرها عقلُ العقلاء.
