تأتي أهمية هذا الكتاب من كونه يقدم صورة صادقة عن الحياة الإجتماعية والإقتصادية والدينية للفترة المدروسة وهو على شكل يوميات تسلط الضوء على حياة الناس واهتماماتهم ونشاطاتهم وفنونهم وألبستهم، وعاداتهم وتقاليدهم وأخلاقهم في التعامل فيما بينهم وكذلك مواقفهم ومثلهم العليا وحفاظهم على دينهم. يقول المؤلف "حيث ينهض الناس من نومهم مبكرين لأداء واجباتهم الدينية، والقيام بأعمالهم اليومية بكل جدّ ونشاط وحيوية منذ الصباح الباكر امتثالاً للحديث الشريف "بورك لأمتي في بكورها" ، وما يقوم به أفراد المجتمع الرجل والمرأة جنباً إلى جنب، كل يقوم بعمله على الوجه المطلوب بـ حسب قدرته وبأقصى طاقته". وفي الكتاب أيضاً يذكر المؤلف صورة عن الحياة الثقافية في الماضي القريب "الكتاتيب" و "حلقات الذكر" ، و"براعة الأدباء في الشعر والخطابة والقصة، ومن الفنون الشعبية يذكر "العرضة النجدية" ، "الغناء على الربابة" و "الغناء على ظهور الإبل"الهجيني" ، ومن المشروبات "القهوة العربية" ومن الألعاب الرياضية "الفروسية" و"لعبة المزاقيط" وغيرها من الإهتمام بالزينة والحكي عند النساء وعند الرجال ... ومتفرقات أخرى مثل عادة الوسم وعادة التدخين وظاهرة الرضاع ...
