تشتمل هذه الدراسة على قسمين: نظري عملي ميداني، يهدف القسم الأول منها إلى تحديد ماهية القيم وأهمية دراستها وشروط حدوث القيمة عند فرد ما، ويدخل في أنماطها وأنواعها وتفريعاتها والعلاقة فيما بينها. ويتطرق هذا القسم إلى جانب من تاريخ دراسة القيم ومقاييسها، وبالتحديد مقياس "روكيتش" لدراسة القيم، بعد ذلك يتطرق هذا القسم إلى الحديث عن علاقة القيم بغيرها من الظواهر الاجتماعية كالسلوك والاتجاهات والدوافع والمعتقدات، مبشراً بعد ذلك إلى أهم وظائف القيم ومنها الوظيفة التوفيقية، ووظيفة الدفاع عن الذات، وثالثاً كونها معايير اجتماعية يهتدي بها. ثم افرد فصل للحديث عن نظم التقييم وارتقائها وتغيرها بتغير الأحوال المرافقة لها، والظروف المؤدّية إلى تغير القيم وتحركها وثباتها… أما القسم الثاني من هذه الدراسة، وهو القسم العملي الميداني فيهدف إلى مسح أنظمة القيم السائدة عند طلبة الدراسات الشرعية،على مذهب أهل السنة والجماعة، ويهدف هذا القسم أيضا إلى استكشاف الظواهر التي تتبلور من خلالها القيم، والتغير الذي يطرأ عليها من سنة جامعية إلى أخرى بشكل يفصح عن مسار نموها، وارتقائها، وتغييرها أو ثباتها. وبالتالي الكشف عن مدى التجانس أو التباين الحاصل في اتجاهات طلبة الشريعة وقيمهم بالنسبة لمتغيرات أربعة وهي الجنس، والمستوى الأكاديمي، والطبقة الاقتصادية، ونوع الكلية. وتتطرق هذه الدراسة إلى وصف العلاقة القائمة بين الأهداف التربوية المصاغة، وتلك التي بموجبها تسير المناهج التربية في كليات الشريعة المختلفة، وبين ما ينبغي إن تكون عليه الأهداف في ضوء مشاكل المجتمع اللبناني وقيمه المختلفة.
وتنبثق أهمية هذه الدراسة من أن قيم طلبة الدراسات الشرعية ونظمها لمّا تدرس حتى الآن الدراسة العملية الجادة والشاملة. فالحاجة ماسة إلى التعرف على القيم السائدة عند جمهور طلبة الدراسات الشرعية، حسب مذهب أهل السنة والجماعة، وحسب المذاهب الإسلامية.
