بين المفكرين والعباقرة على بعد المسافات بينهم، شيء مشترك لا يمكن أن تخطئه العيون المبصرة والعقول النيرة، وهذا الشيء يكمن في قدرة هؤلاء على إحداث الأثر فيمن حولهم من المجتمعات، إذ مازلنا نلمس لليوم أثر سقراط وأفلاطون وأرسطو في من جاء بعدهم ولئن كان رجل مثل سقراط قد اتهم بإفساد الشباب حتى أجبر على تجرع السم، ليموت على مرأى من تلاميذه، فإن مفكرين آخرين كانوا أسعد حظاُ منه إذ أنصفتهم مجتمعاتهم ولم تتنكر لهم بل احتفت بهم واعتبرتهم هداة على طريق الحق والخير والمعرفة.
وإن المرء ليفخر اليوم بأنه قد قرأ لفرانو فانون، والبير كامو، وهيدجر وفرويد ونيتشه، وتروتسكي، ورامبو، وتوماس مان، وبروست بلوزاك، وبيراندللو وغيرهم من المفكرين والأدباء وقد لا يتاح للمرء أن يقرأ كل ما أبدعته قرائح هؤلاء المفكرين، إذ لا يكفي العمر لقراءة كل ما كتبه عدد قليل منهم.
