تعدّ السنوات التالية للحرب العالمية الثانية مؤشراً لدخول إيران مرحلة تاريخية مهمة، انفردت بخصائص وسمات ميزتها من غيرها من حقب التاريخ الإيراني الحديث والمعاصر، واستطاعت أن تترك أثراً واضحاً ليس في إيران حسب، بل في منطقة الشرق الأوسط بأسرها، لا سيما العراق، البلد المجاور لها.
عاشت إيران آنذاك مخاضاً عسيراً نتيجة تأزم الأوضاع السياسية والإقتصادية التي كانت تعاني منها البلاد كثيراً، إذ تحمل الإيرانيون عبأها الأكبر، وفي الوقت ذاته كانت شركة النفط الأنكلو-إيرانية تمثل البؤرة التي أوجدت المآسي والويلات، فكان قرار التأميم الإيراني في 15 آذار 1951 الحل الوحيد الذي فرض نفسه بديلاً عن كل الحلول التي طرحت آنذاك، وقد رحب الرأي العام العراقي بهذا القرار، وعده خطوة جريئة لتحرير الشعوب المضطهدة من الإستعباد السياسي والإقتصادي، الأمر الذي دفع بعض النواب في المجلس النيابي العراقي للمطالبة بتأميم عمليات النفط في العراق، إلى الحد الذي أصبح ذلك مطلباً وطنياً واضحاً وملحاً.
