يتناول الكتاب موضوع الجغرافيا السياسية لبلاد الشام ، وهى البقعة الجغرافية التى تمتد من حدود فلسطين مع سيناء ومن خليج العقبة جنوباً ، إلى لواء اسكندرون المتاخم لمنطقة كيليكيا شمالاً ، وينقسم هذا الكتاب إلى أحد عشر فصلاً : يتناول تاريخ الصراعات على سوريا منذ فجر التاريخ حتى القرن العاشر الميلادي ، ويركز على دور سوريا المحوري في العلاقات الدولية وصراعات القوى العظمى ويشهد على ذلك توقيع أول معاهدة دولية على أرض سوريا بين ملك الحثيين والفرعون المصري رمسيس الثاني عام 1284 قبل الميلاد ، كما يتناول الصراعات التى نشبيت على سوريا ما بين القرن الحادي عشر وأوائل القرن الرابع عشر ثم مرحلة السلام التى عاشتها البلاد في ظل المماليم في القرن السادس عشر ، وغيرها من الصراعات التى وقعت في سوريا وصولاً إلى عهد الرئيس بشار الأسد وإلى تحليل الأزمة الراهنة من وجهة نظر التأثيرات الجيو سياسية في منطقة الشرق الأوسط على سورية في الفصل الأخير .
