لا حاجة بنا للدلالة على أهمية هذا البحث، فالكل أصبح يعرف معرفة واضحة أن الطائفية هي من أهم المعوقات التي تمنع مجتمعنا اللبناني من التطور والتقدم.
والتطور ليس مفهوماً مجرداً بل حقيقة إجتماعية وإقتصادية وسياسية؛ أي حقيقة تاريخية لها أسبابها ودوافعها التي هي بدورها تاريخية أيضاً، فعندما نقول إن الطائفية تعوق التطور لا نعني أنها تقف في وجه التاريخ وتمنعه من السير نحو الأفضل، بل نعني أنها دخلت التاريخ اللبناني من خلال دخولها في عقول اللبنانيين وعاداتهم وأعرافهم فأصبح فعلهم في التاريخ يتمّ على ضوئها وبتأثيرها المباشر وغير المباشر.
وبما أن التاريخ هو من صنع الناس، والطائفية هي ظاهرة تاريخية أضحت كذلك من فعل الناس، ليس طبعاً كل الناس وإنما الذين يملكون السيطرة على الآخرين، فمهما اختلفت الآراء والنظريات فمما لا شك فيه أن الطائفية هي من صنع هؤلاء أكان ذلك عن وعي أو عن لا وعي.
