هذا الكتاب من أجلّ كتب الإسلام, شهد بفضله الأئمة الأعلام, على مر العصور والأيام, وخصوه بمزيد من العناية والاهتمام. فهو كتاب عظيم النفع, لأنه نظام تربوي متكامل, منهج شامل لبناء شخصية المسلم والسير به للوصول الى رضى الله تبارك وتعالى والفوز بالنعيم المقيم. إنه ينير للمسلم طريق السعادة, ويرتقي به في درجات الكمال, ويبين له كل ما له وما عليه في كافة جوانب الحياة عقيدة وعبادة وسلوكاً. قفد كانت لهذا الكتاب أهميته المتميزة وخصوصيته بإقبال المسلمين عليه وعناية العلماء به شرحاً واختصاراً ودراسة. ولما رأى الإمام الغزالي رحمه الله تعالى حاجة المسلمين الى كتابه كما رأى أنه ربما يكون حجم الكتاب عائقاً- أحياناً- دون الاستفادة منه لصعوبة حمله ونقله, عمد الى اختصاره واستخلاص لبابه ليكون زاداً للمسلم في حله وترحاله. وليكون دافعاً للمسلمين للعودة الى كتاب الله عز وجل وسنة نبيهم عليه الصلاة والسلام وسيرة سلفهم الصالح.
الغزالي: هو محمد بن محمد بن أحمد, أبو حامد, الطوسي, الغزالي, ولد في مدينة طوس سنة 450هجرية. كان والده يغزل الصوف ويبيعه في دكانه بطوس. توفي رحمه الله تعالى يوم الإثنين, الرابع عشر من جمادى الآخرة سنة خمس وخمسمائة(505) هجرية. أهم مؤلفاته: إحياء علوم الدين, بداية الهداية, الوسيط المحيط بأقطار البسيط, الوجيز في الفروع, المستصفى في أصول الفقه, الاقتصاد في الاعتقاد, وغيرها من المؤلفات الهامة.
