قَسَّم المح قِّق كتابه إلى ثلاثة فصول؛ حيث تناول في الفصل الأول البيان لمن ألَّف في علوم القرآن، فعرض فيه معنى علوم القرآن ونشأته وتطوره ومسار التصنيف فيه، كما وضع معجماً لمصنفاته مرتباً على تاريخ الوفيات ليُسْتَقْرأ من خلاله تطور التأليف في هذا العلم عبر الزمن.
وعرَّف في الفصل الثاني بابن الجوزي هذا العالم السباق إلى هذا الفن وترجم له، مس لِّطاً الضوء على عصره ونشأته ومبلغ علومه.
أما الفصل الثالث فقد اضطلع فيه بتحقيق كتاب المجتبى من المجتنى لابن الجوزي حيث شرح كلماته، وضبط ن صه، وخرَّج آياته وآحاديثه وآثاره، وترجم لأعلامه، وختم الكتاب بجملة من الفهارس الفنية التي تُعين على سهولة البحث فيه.
