قسَّمت المحققة الكتاب إلى قسمين اثنين، حيث أثبتت في القسم الأول منه دراسة في فصلين؛ فتكلَّمت في الفصل الأول منه عن الخطابة معنى وتاريخاً وأسلوباً، وعن الخطيب وما يتطلَّبه من عدَّة وصفات. ثم ترجمت في الفصل الثاني للإمام ابن الجوزي، فسلَّطت الضوء على عصره ونشأته وشيوخه وتلاميذه ومصنفاته، ومكانته العلمية وأقوال العلماء فيه، كما بيَّنت منهجه وأسلوبه في فن الخطابة الوعظية الذي اشتهر به، فكان فيه نسيج وحده، وفريد دهره.
أما القسم الثاني فحقَّقت في الفصل الأول منه صحة اسم الكتاب ونسبته إلى الإمام ابن الجوزي، وبيَّنت قيمته العلمية بما حواه من ثروة أدبية ولغوية فريدة، وأتبعت ذلك ببيان خطة عملها في الكتاب، ومنهجها في التحقيق، ثم عمدت إلى كتاب المورد العذب في الفصل الثاني فاضطلعت بتحقيقه وضبطه والتعليق عليه.
