وكنتيجة لهذا التغير إزداد الإهتمام يوماً بعد يوم بأهمية تحسين وتطوير طرائق التعليم، وذلك من خلال إستخدام إستراتيجيات تعليمية تثير في المتعلم حب الإستطلاع، وتسهم في تنمية التعلم الذاتي، وتحقق تقدماً في إستيعاب المفاهيم العلمية بعيداً عن الأسلوب التقليدي الذي يظهر المتعلم مستقبلاً للمعرفة وعنصراً غير فاعل وسلبياً في العملية التعليمية، ويشير الأدب التربوي في هذا المجال إلى تنامي الآراء الداعية للتدريس من أجل رفع مستوى التفكير عند الطلبة وإتاحة الفرصة أمامهم لممارسة مهارات التفكير والعادات العقلية السليمة.
ويعتبر "التصميم التعليمي" هو المجال الرئيسي للوسائط المتعددة، ويقوم على أساس مفاهيم ومبادئ علمية متنوعة ومتعددة، ومن هنا جاءت فكرة إعداد هذا الكتاب لتقديم الأفكار التي ترتبط بتصميم وإنتاج الوسائط المتعددة في مجال التعليم.
وقد تم تقسيم الكتاب إلى فصلين: الفصل الأول تناول "التصميم التعليمي"، وأما الفصل الثاني: فكان بعنوان: "الوسائط المتعددة".
