الوسائط المتعددة أو كما يسميها البعض الوسائط المتكاملة، أصبحت حديث الجميع بالأمس القريب واليوم وفي الغد المنتظر، فهي ليست قاصرة على جهة معينة، بل هي كضوء الشمس في كل مكان، وسيأتي يوم على الناس لن يستطيعوا أن يكونوا في غنى لأنها ستتغلغل في حياتهم اليومية.
فنرى تطبيقات الوسائط المتعددة في مجالات عدة، مثل تطبيقات التعليم الآلي، من خلال عملية إنتاج المناهج التعليمية وذلك في مرحلة ما بعد التأليف، وبالرغم من أن عملية تأليف مادة علمية باستخدام الوسائط المتعددة تحتاج إلى وقت طويل نسبياً ألا أن كفاءة المنتج النوعية، تكون مميزة.
في هذا الإطار يأتي هذا الكتاب والذي يحتوي على ثماني وحدات الوحدة الأولى تحتوي على مفهوم للوسائط المتعددة من حيث ماهيتها وأدواتها وعناصرها واستخدامها وأمثلة على تطبيقاتها عليها. الوحدة الثانية تتكلم عن المكونات المادية للوسائط المتعددة والتي من أهمها كرت الصوت والماسحات الضوئية والأقراص الضوئية ومشغلاتها وكرتات العرض.
الوحدة الثالثة تم الحديث فيها عن برمجيات الوسائط المتعددة، حيث بدأ الحديث أولاً عن نظام أدوات التأليف والذي قاد بعدها للحديث عن بعض البرامج التي تستخدم في عمل تطبيقات الوسائط المتعددة وهم برنامج الـ POWER POINT وبرنامج الـ front page. الوحدة الرابعة تم الحديث فيها عن الطرق المستخدمة في الوسائط المتعددة حيث تم الحديث عن خوارزميات الضغط وفك الضغط وعن استخدام عناصر الوسائط المتعددة وملحقات الوسائط المتعددة في وندوز وعن طرق تحريك الصور.
الوحدة الخامسة تم الحديث عن خطوات تصميم وتطوير تطبيق الوسائط المتعددة. أما الوحدات الثلاث البقية فقد تم تركها للحديث عن برنامج الماكروميديا دايركتور حيث تم فيها أساسيات برنامج الدايركتور وعن كيفية التعامل معه ثم تم الحديث عن لغة اللنجو المستخدمة في هذا التطبيق وعن برنامج الـ Shock ware.
