جورج كانتو هو مؤسس نظرية اللانهائيات في الرياضيات ويمكن أن يقال بحث مؤسس الرياضيات الحديثة حيث كان شغله الشاغل هو إنجاز مفهوم المجموعة باعتبارها إحدى ركائز الرياضيات الأساسية وجعل نظرية الأعداد الموغلة (ما وراء المنتهى) وبالذات مفهوم الأعداد الترتيبية لب أعماله. والهدف الأساسي الذي قاد الدكتور عبد اللطيف يوسف الصديقي إلى دراسة مسألة اللانهائية في الرياضيات عند "جورج كانتور" هو افتقار المكتبة العربية إلى دراسة حول فكرة اللانهائية.
في البداية قام بوضع بحث تطرق فيه للتطور التاريخي لفكرة اللانهائية، وهو يمثل مرحلة ما قبل الكانتورية، وفي هذا البحث ناقش الأفكار الأساسية التي دفعت كانتور للتوصل غلى فكرة الأعداد الموغلة أو ما بعدى المنتهى. ثم تطرق إلى الأساليب التي تميزت بها نظريته وصولاً إلى الحلول الممكنة والجذرية التي قدمها بجرأة وحماس كي يثبت كل الأسس المنطقية والرياضية لتصبح مدخلاً خلاباً لكل فرع من فروع الرياضيات، وختمت الدراسة ببعض المفارقات التي أفرزتها النظرية التي دون شك حتمية نتيجة عمق جذورها وسعة أفقها، وأضاف إلى هذا الفصل موجزاً عن نظرية التحليل اللامعياري (اللامقياسي) الذي تقدم به الرياضي الأمريكي روبنسون، هذا التحليل الذي يمثل اللانهائيات في الصغر وهو الجزء الذي أهمله أو تجاهله.
