وأصل الكتاب متن العلامة الطحلاوي ويعد زبدة القول في هذا الفن، ثم شرحه العلامة السنباوي بشرح زاده وضوحاً. ولندرة التأليف في هذا الموضوع كان جديراً بطالب العلم أن يقرأه ويسامره، ويطالعه وينادمه، وأن يمرِّس طبعه بقواعده وضوابطه العلمية التي بسط المؤلف القول فيها.
