من المؤكد أن إبداع الشاعر لا يتمثل في قدرته على نظم الشعر، أو في قدرته على نظمه لمختلف ألوان الشعر، من الحماس إلى الرثاء إلى الغزل إلى المديح، أو في قدرته على النظم في سائر الأوزان الشعرية، من الطويل، إلى الكامل، إلى الرجز، إلى الرمل، إلى غير ذلك، أو في قدرته على تضمين أبياته الشعرية لصور شاعرية جميلة ورائعة فحسب، بل في قدرته أيضاً على طرق مختلفة أنواع النظم من التثليث، إلى التربيع، إلى التخميس، إلى التسديس إلى غيرها.
والتخميس هو بيت القصيد في كلامنا هنا، وهو عنوان هذا الديوان من دواوين دائرة المعارف الحسينية، الذي جمع فيه مؤلف هذه الموسوعة الشيخ الدكتور محمد صادق محمد الكرباسي خمس عشرة مقطوعة من الشعر المخمس في الإمام أبي عبد الله الحسين.
والتخميس هو نوع من أنواع النظم المتمثل بقيام الشاعر بإضافة شطرين هما الرابع والخامس إلى أشطر ثلاثة لشاعر آخر، وهناك طرق أخرى للتخميس اقترحها المؤلف وأوردها، في التمهيد الذي وضعه لهذا الجزء كما هو ديدنه في أجزاء الموسوعة جميعها، حيث يضع تمهيداً علمياً، تاريخياً، لغوياً لكل باب من أبواب هذه الموسوعة الكثيرة.
وقد بيّن سماحته بعد الشرح اللغوي لمفردة التخميس ماهية التخميس، وشروطه والألوان المختلفة من الخماسيات التي لم يفت سماحته الإشارة إليها مرفقاً ذلك بأمثلة لكل نوع من أنواعها.
