التخميس وهو من محسنات الشعر المعروفة، يجري غالباً على ابيات متداولة أو مشهورة، تتميز بقوتها ومتانتها الأدبية والبلاغية، وهي من نظم شعراء كبار يملكون كل الأدوات الأدبية واللغوية والأسلوبية. وعنوان هذا الكتاب (ديوان التخميس) دليل على مضمونه، فهو في الشعر المخمّس، ولكن لكونه أحد أجزاء داىئرة المعارف الحسينية الكبرى، فهو منحصر في الإمام الحسين رضي الله عنه وأهل بيته وأنصاره، وقضيته الكبرى، "واقعة ألطف"، وصفاً ورثاءً ومديحاً وولاءً.
وفي هذا الجزء يواصل سماحة الشيخ محمد صادق محمد الكرباسي عرض القصائد أو الأبيات المخمسة، وهي قصائد أو أبيات مشهورة لشعراء كبار، باتت معروفة ومحفوظة لدى القراء أو المستمعين، لأن أغلبها يردد على مسامعهم من قبل خطباء المجالس الحسينية وبعض الرواديد.
وهذا الجزء هو العاشر بعد المائة من أجزاء دائرة المعارف الحسينية، يبدأ بحرف الراء لينتهي بحرف الظاء، مع إشارة المؤلف إلى الشاعر الناظم والشاعر المخمس، وتاريخ التخميس والمناسبه، والغرض من ذلك ...
