أهمية هذا الكتاب أن مؤلفه أبي الحسن المدائني، شيخ الرواة وإمام الإخباريين في تاريخ الثقافة العربية، كما ينطوي كتابه هذا على نصوص كثيرة الفرد المدائني بروايتها، حيث يعد مصدراً مهماً لمجموعة من النصوص الشعرية والنثرية التي ضاعت.
