هذا الكتاب أثار في الغرب منذ صدوره إلى اليوم جدلاً كثيراً في الأوساط المهتمة بالتراث الروحي، وفيه يبيّن الشيخ عبد الواحد يحيى وجود مملكة للولاية في عالم الإنسان، وهي مملكة القلوب والأرواح حسب مقاماتها عند ربها وتحققها بالمعرفة الإلهية، وهي المركز الثابت الذي عليه مدار أطوار الحضارات الإنسانية من بدإ الخليقة إلى آخر الزمان.
سلطانها هو قطب الزمان، وحكامها بأمر الله تعالى، بمختلف طبقاتهم هم أولياء الرحمان، ونوابهم موزعون داخل كلّ الشعوب والأمم، وإنْ كان أشخاص هذه المملكة يغلب عليهم الستر والخفاء، فآثارهم عند العرفاء في غاية الظهور والجلاء.
ولبيان ذلك استعمل المؤلف أسلوباً ومصطلحات تتناسب مع عقلية الغربيين، كما استشهد بمعطيات من مصادر متنوعة لملل وأديان وتراثيات مختلفة تشير إلى وجود مركز علوي دائم لديوان الولاية من حيث قول الله تعالى: (ولقد كتبنا في الزبور من بعد الذكر أنّ الأرض يرثها عبادي الصالحون إنّ في هذا لبلاغاً لقوم عابدين وما أرسلناك إلاّ رحمة للعالمين).
