فواز طرابلسي (1941- ) أستاذ جامعي ومؤرخ لبناني. كان مع أحمد بيضون ووضاح شرارة من أبرز قيادي حركة لبنان الاشتراكي التي اندمجت سنة 1970 مع منظمة الاشتراكيين اللبنانيين لتشكل منظمة العمل الشيوعي في لبنان. أصبح طرابلسي نائبا للأمين العام للمنظمة ثم أحد أبرز وجوه الحركة الوطنية اللبنانية. غادر المنظمة سنة 1984 وذهب إلى باريس لمواصلة دراسته. يحمل دكتوراه في التاريخ من جامعة باريس. شغل منصب رئيس تحرير جريدة الحرية ومجلة بيروت المساء.

تعتمد هذه الدراسة على أوراق عائلية أو أرشيف عائلي. وتخص الأوراق العائلية أسرة مالك عقاري ووجيه محلي من بلدة مشغرة في البقاع الغربي، يعود قسم منها إلى إلياس طرابلسي والقسم الآخر إلى ابنه سليمان وأسرته. وتشكل مجموعة الوثائق التي نجح المؤلف في فرزها والاحتفاظ بها أو تسجيل ملاحظات عنها جزءاً صغيراً من أرشيف مدهش في حجمه وفي الدأب الذي به جمعه ونظمه صاحبه محتفظاً بأصغر وصل أو قصاصة ورق.
إذن يعالج هذا الكتاب القيم بلدة مشغرة وجوارها والسكان. ويعطي لمحة عن تاريخ البلدة في إطار منطقة البقاع والكيان اللبناني من خلال نشوء وانحلال الملكية العقارية وكذا من علاقات المحسوبية، كل ذلك عبر رواية نمط حياة سليمان طرابلسي وعائلته.
