مصنف هذا الكتيب هو الحبيب عبد الله بن علوي بن محمد الحداد، ولد بالسبير من ضواحي مدينة تريم بحضرموت ليلة الخميس 5 صفر سنة 1044هـ وتربى في تريم وقد كف بصره وهو صغير فعوضه الله عنه بنور البصيرة وجد واجتهد في طلب العلوم النافعة وعكف على علماء عصره في مقدمة مشايخه عمر بن عبد الرحمن العطاس العلامة عقيل بن عبد الرحمن السقاف العلامة عبد الرحمن بن شيخ عيديد، ثم نصبه الله للدعوة والإرشاد داعياً إلى الله تعالى بالحكمة والموعظة الحسنة فأقبل عليه الناس وانتشر صيته في البلدان وانتفع به القاصي والداني فنفع الله به الكثير وأرشد الجم الغفير وانتشرت دعوته في كل مكان وانتفع الناس بوعظه وكتبه وأخذ عنه الجم الغفير فمن كبار تلامذته ابنه حسن بن عبد الله الحداد، أحمد بن زين الحبشي، عبد الرحمن بن عبد الله بلفقيه، وغيرهم العدد الكثير. وله مؤلفات كثيرة جمعت النصائح والمواعظ والحكم وانتشرت انتشاراً كبيراً وكتب لها القبول والمحبة ونفع الله بها الناس وقد ترجمت بعض مؤلفاته إلى لغات أجنبية في العصر الحاضر مثل الإنجليزية والفرنسية. ومؤلفاته غنية عن التعريف ومشهورة لدى الكبير والصغير ومنها النصائح الدينية والدعوة التامة ورسالة المعاونة والفصول العلمية وغيرها من الوصايا والرسائل.
وبين يدينا مجموع ضم أكثر مؤلفاته شهرة وانتشاراً بين القراء حيث أقبل الناس عليه إقبالاً شديداً وأعجب بها العلماء والعارفون وجعلوها بمنزلة الغذاء يقرئون فيها في كثير من الأوقات وقالوا عنها أنها جمعت الخلاصة والزبدة من كلام الإمام حجة الإسلام الغزالي ولا يستغني عنها كل مسلم فهي وجيزة وجامعة. وفيما يلي ذكر لعناوين هذه الرسائل: النصائح الدينية، الدعوة التامة، رسالة المعاونة والمظاهرة، الفصول العلمية، سبيل الادكار، رسالة المذاكرة، آداب سلوك المريد، كتاب الحكم، النفائس العلوية، إتحاف السائل.
