هذا كتاب، ذكر فيه المؤلف وهو الشبح "عبد الله بن علوي الحداد" أطرافاً من النصائح والوصايا، والآداب العلمية التي يتعين ويتأكد الأخذ بها والإنصاف بحقائقها ومعانيها من قبل المسلمين وقصدة في ذلك إسداء النصيحة والوصية والتأديب.
أما تقسيمه للكتاب فجاء على مقدمة وثمانية فصول وخاتمة، في المقدمة شرح مفهوم الدعوة إلى الله وإلى دينه وسبيله. أما الفصل الأول فخصصه لموضوع نصيحة العلماء ولتذكيرهم وتخويفهم وتحذيرهم، وخصص الفصل الثاني للعباد والزهاء، وأهل الجد والاجتهاد، والمبتلون إلى الله، والمتفرغون لطاعته وعبادته، وخدمته وحسن معاملته، والقول في نصيحتهم. وتذكيرهم وتنبيههم وتحذيرهم، أما الفصل الثالث فافردوه للأهل الملك والسلطنة ونحوهم وتناول في الفصل الرابع تحذير التجار والزراع والصناع والمحترفون وأشباههم من المباشرين لأحوال المعاش والمشغولين بالسعي له.
وفي الفصل الخامس دعا الفراء والضعفاء والمساكين إلى الإيمان بالله وحذرهم من عصيانه لأن ما هم عليه ما هو إلا اختيار لهم ولصبرهم، ونصح في الفصل السادس الأولاد والنساء والآباء والأزواج ونبههم وحذرهم من عصيان الخالق ومنع إتيان أفعال تكون منافية للدين، وفي الفصل السابع دعا المشغولين بطاعة الله إلى العودة إلى الدين، أما الفصل الأخير فأفرده لمن لم يستجب لدعوة الله ورسوله.
