"قيس بن ذريح"، الملقب بقيس لبنى، نسبة إلى محبوبته لبنى كان من العشاق العذريون الذين تفردوا بعشقهم عن سائر خلق الله، فتوحدوا بمحبوبة ولم يرضوا عنها بديلاً. أحب قيس لبنى وتزوج بها، ولكن حبه لوالديه وخوفه عليها جبره على طلاقها، فطلقها وعاش حياته حسرة وندماًً على ما بدر منه، وقد فرط بمن أحب، فلم يجد سبيلاًً للكلام سوى قول الشعر بمحبوبته لبنى التي أفنى عمره بحبها وإخلاصه لها ومات حسرةً لفراقها. وفي هذا الكتاب يجمع "عدنان زكي درويش" مختلف ما وقف عليه من قصائد الحب والعشق التي رددها قيس بمعشوقته لبنى، شارحاً ما خفي من معانيها وما غمض من مفرداتها.
