Book Description
عندما توفي والد توفيق لم يحضر مراسم دفنه سوى أربعة أشخاص، هو وصديق طفولته عماد ووالده وشخص آخر لم يكن يعرفه حتى تلك اللحظة، أخبره أنَّه الحاج سالم جار والده في المحل.
استدان توفيق من والد صديقه عماد مبلغاً من المال حتى يدفع به ثمن الكفن وأجور الدفّان، لم يجد في جيوب والده المتوفى سوى ورقة واحدة من فئة خمسة ألاف دينار.
لم يكن الحاج شبوط، والد توفيق، محبوباً من أحد، جنازته، كانت خير دليل على ذلك، لم يحزن أحد على الميت، حتى زوجته لم تبدُ على سيمائها أي إشارة حزن وبالكاد اضطر ابنه توفيق للبس ملامح الحزن على وجهه أثناء الدفن خجلاً من الآخرين على الرغم من أنه في داخله كان يود لو حزن بحقِّ وأن تنزل دموعه من ألمه على فقدان والده، لكنه لم يحظّ بهذه المشاعر حتى آخر نظرة لوالده قبل أن يُوارى التراب، سأل نفسه تلك اللحظة: ( يا تُرى هل أنا بخيل المشاعر كوالدي؟).
في الحقيقة، والده لم يكن بخيل المشاعر وحسب بل كان بخيلاً في كلِّ شيء: في ماله ولبسه وأكله وحتى في كلامه، ربما كانت عينه تتكلم أكثر بكثير من لسانه السليط وهذا عندما تدعوه الحاجة الماسة للكلام، عندما عاد توفيق إلى المنزل بعد الدفن سألته أمه محاولة كلّ جهدها دفن مشاعرها المتضاربة:
- مَنْ حضر جنازة والدك؟ فأجابها كاذباً:
- لم أحصهم يا أمي لكن كانوا كثيرين من جيرانه في العمل... ثمَّ سألته بشيء من التردد وكأنها تعرف الجواب:
- ومَنْ من جيراننا؟...
لم يجب واكتفى بالصمت، كانت ستعرف لو كذب، فأكتفت هي أيضاً بجوابه الصامت، لم تكن تنتظر أحسن منه، لم يكن الحاج شبوط إنساناً ودياً إطلاقاً مع جيرانه أو مع أي إنسان آخر، بل لم يكن ودياً حتى مع نفسه ذاتها.
