مهما تعدّدت وظائف النحو العربي وتكاثرت منذ نشأته حتّى يومنا هذا تبقى الوظيفة الأبرز هي أنّ النحو بأصوله وقواعده، وأنظمته، وضوابطه طريق إلى بيان الدلالة وعنصر من العناصر المركزية لتحديد المراد من التراكيب والعبارات التي نتداولها نطقاً، وقراءة، وكتابة؛ لأنّ الأصل في نشأة النحو العربي هو بيان المعنى سواء أكان هذا المعنى نحوياً، أم صرفياً أم إعرابياً وظيفياً، أو كان معنى نصيّاً سياقياً ضمن وظائفه الخاصة والعامة وضمن الأطر الإجتماعية أو الدينية أو الثقافية بمفاهيمها، وتوجهاتها ومناهجها.
وليس من شك في أنّ الوصول إلى فهم النص القرآني وبيان معاني آياته، وإستنباط احكامه الشرعية والإجتماعية، والثقافية وغيرها ممّا تقوم عليه حيوات الناس، وأغراضهم، وحاجاتهم مع تعدّد السياقات، وأحوال الكلام كان أحد الأسباب الجوهرية في نشأة النحو العربي.
إنَّ النحو العربي إبداع ذهنية عربية أو قد شعلتها الدين الإسلامي، ورسالة الله تعالى للبشر (القرآن الكريم)، وهذا النحو بقواعده المجرّدة والمعمّقة، الظاهرة والباطنة وبأشكاله وكليته اللسانية، وحواشيه، ومتونه، ومناهجه المتعدّدة مؤشّر على الأصالة العلمية للفكر العربي المشبّع بالقرآن الكريم على المستويات العلمية والمعرفية كافة.
