الدولة مفهوم فلسفي وسياسي ورهان السلطة الأساسي، إنها مجموع المؤسسات أو الأجهزة التي تمارس السلطة بواسطتها نفوذها وإكراهاتها، ولهذا السبب فهي تستقطب المدح والذم والمساندة والمعارضة والنقد والمحاباة.
سيتضح، من خلال النصوص المقترحة، المسار الذي تشكلت من خلاله الدولة وكذا التحليلات النظرية والفلسفية وغيرها، إبتداءً من مجتمعات ما قبل الدولة مروراً بالسجال الغني حول كيفية وأسباب ومشروعية تشكل الدولة، ومكانة القوة والعنف في تكوينها وقيامها بمهامها، وإبراز أهميتها وضرورتها بالنسبة للتقدم والإستقرار وضمان حريات الافراد، وإنتهاءاً بنقدها نقداً عنيفاً والبرهنة على عدم حيادها وعلى سلبيتها وكونها مصدراً أساسياً من مصادر التوترات الإجتماعية والفقر، والدعوة إلى الإطاحة بها إما عبر التمرد عليها أو عبر تحول تاريخي من مجتمعات طبقية تعتمد الدولة إلى مجتمعات بدون طبقات تستغني نهائياً عنها.
فكيف يمكن للمساءلة الفلسفية لمفهوم الدولة أن تسهم في حل بعض إشكالاتها المتعلقة بإكراهات السلطة؟ كيف نشأت الدولة في المجتمعات الإنسانية وهل يمكن لهذه المجتمعات أن تستغني عنها؟ هل جميع أشكال الدولة متساوية من حيث الأهمية تاريخياً ووظيفياً؟ ما أهمية النماذج المثالية الطوباوية للدولة؟ هل تحفز على إصلاح الدولة الواقعة أم على العكس من ذلك هي تعبير عن إستحالة نجاح مهام الدولة المعلنة؟.
