تتكوّن هذه الدراسة من مقدّمة وثمانية أجزاء رئيسة موزّعة كالتالي: الجزء الأول: يقدم صورة واضحة ومختصرة عن مشكلة التخلف وأبعادها وأسبابها، الجزء الثاني: يتناول التخطيط التنموي بشكل عام مفهومه، نشأته وأنواعه، الجزء الثالث: يعالج التخطيط الإقليمي وعلاقته بالعلوم الأخرى وبداياته والإقليم ومفهومه وأنواعه، الجزء الرابع: يشتمل على مفهوم التخطيط الإقليمي وأساليبه وخصائصه، الجزء الخامس: يحتوي على تفصيل عن المتطلّبات الأساسية للتخطيط الإقليمي، الجزء السادس: يدرس بالتفصيل إجرائية عملية التخطيط الإقليمي ومراحله المتسلسلة، الجزء السابع: يتناول أهم نظريات التخطيط الإقليمي والتنمية الإقليمية من وجهة النظر الجغرافية، الجزء الثامن: وفيه تم تناول التجربة الأردنية في مجال التخطيط الإقليمي والتنمية الإقليمية.
