ظهرت أوائل الإلتفاتات النقدية والبحثية العربية الجادة، إلى أدب الأطفال، في ستينيات القرن الماضي، ولا سيما في مصر، في الفترة المحصورة بين عام 1966 – حين بدأت الدراسات الجادة تظهر تباعاً – وعام 1973 الذي شهد عقد الحلقة الدراسية الأولى (كتاب الطفل ومجلّته). فخلال تلك الفترة والسنوات القليلة التالية ظهرت كتب ودراسات ومقالات عديدة، وقد دفع أصحابها، إلى هذا الأدب، عوامل أهمها: اهتمام الغرب به قبلنا بمدة ليست قصيرة، والتطور العام الذي شهده الوطن العربي، والثقافة العربية عموماً، والوعي التربوي بأهمية ثقافة الأطفال، وما شهده واقع كتابات أدب الأطفال والفتيان نفسها من تطور، ثم – أخيراً – الإهتمام والدعم العربيان الرسميان، ولا سيما في مصر وسورية والعراق. ولعل من طريف وجميل ما يذكر هنا ما عبّرت عنه الكاتبة الكبيرة سهير القلماوي كرة، حين اطلعت على أنشطة (دار ثقافة الأطفال) في العراق، فقالت: "الآن أستطيع أن أطمئن على ما يقرأه أحفادي". وقد قدم الكتّاب والباحثون العراقيون، تحديداً، على مدى عقود عديدة، كتابات متميزة كمّاً ونوعاً، تناولت مختلف مجالات الكتابة للأطفال، وكان نصيب الأدب، في ذلك، كبيراً نسبياً، وقد تهيأ له، ومن ضمنه أدب القصة، دارسون قدموا للمكتبة دراسات كثيرة نسبياً وقيّمة، أكاديمية وغير أكاديمية. ولكن إزاء الكم والنوع المتميزين في أدب الأطفال، والعناية غير العادية، التي أولاها النقد والدراسة الأكاديمية له في العراق وغيره من البلدان العربية، تجذبنا ظاهرة غريبة بعض
