في مجموعتها القصصية "حبيب رمان" تمارس بشرى خلفان نوعاً من متعة الحكي بعناصر مغايرة تفرد للفن حيزاً كبيراً، وهي عملية ينهض بها السرد فنياً فيؤدي وظيفة مزدوجة تتمثل في الأخبار والإمتاع معاً، وهو ما يؤيد التوجه عند عدد من الأدباء بأنه يجبل عدم تحميل الرواية أكثر مما تحتمل من الجد، وأنه يجب على الأدب أن يكون ممتعاً، ويجب عليه أن يكون دائماً أن يمتلك بنية وهدفاً جمالياً وتلاحماً معقولاً. فتحضر في المجموعة كتابة عن الحب، وتفعل الكاتبة ذلك باستحضار نص "طوق الحمامة" : "الحب ليس بيت شعر عابر، ليس أغنية، ليس اللوعة المؤكدة للفراق، ليس التشظي والتبدد والفناء في الآخر. الحب ليس المكايدة، ليس الذهاب إلى آخر الجنون والعودة منه في لحظة غامرة. الحب كل هذا وزيادة، الحب هو سر الوجود الأعظم، حيث استحالة الإدراك والإستدراك". وهي قصة تروي حكاية "حبيب رمان" الفتاة التي تركت إبن السلطان، وقد روتها الكاتبة على لسان البطلة وهي تفعل ذلك بلغة مهذبة، راقية، تعتمد التلميح والمداورة والكناية في التعبير عن الحب، وتستخدم أيضاً الصور والتشابيه والإستعارات، وتمتلك شعريتها الخاصة التي تطعِّم بها السرد. وعلى هذا الإيقاع تأتي بقية قصص المجموعة الإثني عشرية التي بدت فيها بشرى خلفان تطوق القارىء بحكايات ممتعة، آسرة، تجعل من الصعب عليه كسر هذا الطوق والإستسلام لها طواعية...
