الموسيقى مرآة الحضارة للأمم فهي ترقى وتسمو بسموها ورقيها وانطلاقاً من هذا الاعتبار يمكننا أن نقيس مقدار ما وصلت إليه موسيقانا العربية من تقدم وانفتاح.
لكن البعض من محترفي تعليمها، ممن يجهلون طرقها وأصولها، قد أخذوا ينهجون بانحراف عن مرماها جاعلين من الموسيقى وسيلة للارتزاق الرخيص، غير مبالين ومدركين ما قد ينجم عن هذا الانحراف. لذالك جاء بعض المخلصين من علمائها يعالج مناهج التعليم بروح منفتحة وبرصيد تراثي مهم، فعقدوا لهذه الحال مؤتمرات ومهارات بغية الإصلاح والتصحيح والتقويم.
وإذا كان التعليم من أسمى المهن فإن تعليم الموسيقى من أشرفها. وإن الجماعة التي لم تعر انتباهاً للأسس الصحيحة لعلم الموسيقى واستهترت بالمقررات المتخذة وجعلت الدندنة السريعة والطنطنة المريعة شأنهم قد شوهت تراثنا وجعلته أغنية عابثة على أفواه المستطربين في أيامنا.
لذلك من أراد الوقوف على بعض هذه الأصول يمكنه أن يدلف إلى الجزء الثاني من هذه الموسوعة بقلب شغوف للتملي وللصقل.
حيث تناول هذا الجزء الآلات الموسيقية الشرقية وقد توقف على تعلم آلة العود والناي كنموذج شرقي، ثم تناول الآلات الغربية والتأليف الآلي الغربي والشرقي على السواء. وتحدث فصول أخرى منه عن التأليف الغنائي، وفي يقيننا أن النفع بهذا الكتاب ليس مقصوراً على طائفة بعينها، فقد وضع ليفيد منه طلاب هذا العلم بصفة خاصة، وكذلك الموسيقيون العمليون المشتغلون بالعزف، ومؤلفو الموسيقى وقادة الفرق وصناع الآلات، وأخيراً الهواة، ثم كل من له صلة بهذه العلوم والفنون أداءً أو استماعاً.
