قال أمير المؤمنين رضي الله عنه: "اللهم بلى لن تخلو الأرض من قائم لله بحجته، لكيلا تبطل حجج الله على عباده، أولئك هم الأقلون عدداً، إلا علون عند الله قدراً، بهم يحفظ الله حججه. هجم بهم العلم على حقيقة (الإيمان)، فاستلانوا ما استوعر منه المترفون، وأنسوا بما استوحش منه الجاهلون، صحبوا الدنيا بأبدان أرواحها معلقة بالمحل الأعلى، أولئك خلفاء الله في أرضه، ودعاته إلى دينه، آه ثم آه واشوقاه إلى رؤيتهم".
عوالم ثلاثة نزولاً وصعوداً، من الله وإلى الله وهم في ذلك لا يفكرون إلا في مرضاة الله، وإطاعة أوامره العلية في هداية البشرية. مراتب كان لا بد من تفصيل القول فيها لنتعرف على أئمة الهدى واصل التقى، معرفة دقيقة من القرآن الكريم ورواياتهم الشريفة، فاستصوبت من عيون كتب العامة والخاصة معاً لأنه إذا اتفق المتضادان في النقل على خبر فالخبر حاكم عليهما.
وفي هذا الكتاب معرفة مستوعبة موضوعية لجميع المفاهيم المرتبطة بهم والمتعلقة فيهم، منذ ابتداء أنوارهم مروراً بشفاعتهم ورؤيتهم. وأكثر أبحاث هذا الكتاب جديدة وللقارئ مريدة، وبعضها طرح جزئياً والآخلا كلياً، ولكن من دون دراسة وتحليل، أو شمولية وتعميق أن في الروايات أو في الأقوال.
وفيما يلي ذكر لأبواب هذا الكتاب: الكتاب الأول: في ولايتهم التكوينية والتشريعية. الكتاب الثاني: في تحقيق القول في علمهم وسعته وكيفيته ومصدره. الكتاب الثالث: في طهارتهم الأزلية واختصاصاتهم الملكوتية. الكتاب الرابع: في ذكر ما خصهم الله به دون العالمين. الكتاب الخامس: في إنحاء النصوص علهيم. الكتاب السادس: في التوسل بهم وزيارة وقدسية قبورهم والصلاة عليهم، الكتاب السابع: في تفصيل القول في رجعتهم. الكتاب الثامن: في إثبات الوحي إليهم بنزول جبرائيل عليهم. الكتاب التاسع: في تحقيق القول في معجزتهم وكراماتهم. الكتاب العاشر: في مقامهم وفضلهم على "المرسلين وحبهم وأثره. الكتاب الخادي عشر: في عصمتهم عن جميع الذنوب والآفاق. الكتاب الثاني عشر: في إثبات رؤيتهم وطرقها وكيفيتها وأثرها. الكتاب الثالث عشر: في إثبات التأدب في حضرتهم وتعامل الصحابة معهم. الكتاب الرابع عشر: في تحقيق القول في شفاعتهم وحدودها.
