في كتابه المعنون "أقمار من وطني" يمارس "جوزف مهنا" متعة الحكي؛ كما الحكواتي الذي يسحر مستمعوه، مع فارق يتمثل في أن المؤلف يتحدث عن أبطار هذا الزمان، هم من رفاق الدرب والوطن، من كتّاب وشعراء ومفكرين وإعلاميين، من أبناء لبنان، فجاء كتابه شهادة صادقة عن الكل، وتعبير وتقدير عن كل ما قدموه كلٌّ في مجاله، والذي أعطى لبنان وجهة المشرق بين حضارات الشرق والغرب معاً.
في "التوطئة" التي يبتدأ بها المؤلف كتابهن نقرأ: "هي لغة القلب، حسبما وردَ على لسان عُمر بن قيس: "إذا خرجت من القلب وقعت في القلب، وإذا خرجت من اللسان لا تتجاوز الآذان"، فلا مشاكلة البتة في الروافد ولئن اقتصر الرد في "اقمار من وطني" على رعيل من العتاق والمذاكي، دون سواهم ممن تعلَوْلي بهم السَّاحُ، فَدَواني الأيام ستشهد-بإذن الله-في هتاف الخطى الرصيصة، عربات في ضوءٍ أثيرية، محملة زمرداً كثيراً(...) حُسبنا، أننا رُمنا تجديداً في فلذنا التي أثبتناها في "أقمارنا" هذه بتزامن هلها، آملين، في غيابه هذا التردي: بلفح حرِّهِ ونفح حَرّهِ، أن نكون قد وفقنا في إضافة لبنةٍ غلى لبنات رادةِ العربية الهداة، وأعلامها الميامين".
يتضمن الكتاب شهادات الكاتب في أكثر من مائة شخصية من لبنا نذكر منهم: مطانيوس عيد وجان سالمه، ورياض نصار ومنيف حمدان والأب الفاخوري وصائب سلام وموريس النجار وإبراهيم سمعان وجبران تويني وسعيد عقل وجورج جرداق وإميل كبا (...) وآخرون.
