يشتمل هذا الكتاب على مختارات من "المُلَح" نشرت في مجلة "الجنان البيروتية" تحت أسماء جامعيها من القرّاء، الذين كانوا يرسلونها من بيروت ودمشق وحلب ومختلف المدن والقرى اللبنانية، وهذه المُلَح عبارة عن نوادر مسلية، ونكات مضحكة وفكاهات مبهجة ولطائف عامة خفيفة الظل، وأمثال عاميّة، وأقوال مأثورة يكون لها في الكلام والتمثيل أشدّ الوقع في النفس، فتثير عوامل السرور والضحك لأنها تقع على المحكّ وتوافق مقتضى الحال، ويغلب أن تكون وليدة سرعة الخاطر.
والهدف الذي ابتغاه المؤلف من جمع هذه النوادر والقصص الشعبية هو تصفية الصدور من أكدار ومشاكل الحياة واهتماماتها المضيئة، وفي إبهاج النفوس وتفريج كربها من عناء المتاعب والهموم التي ازدادت بارتقاء المدنية.
