في هذا الكتاب أحداث وذكريات تعود لعشرين سنة، يوردها الأمير شكيب أرسلان عبر مقالات نشرت في الصحف العربية في المشرق والمغرب، أو ديار الإغتراب (بين 1939- 1941). وقد قام صاحب جريدة "العلم العربي" بجمع تلك المقالات، وأعطاها عنوان "عروة الإتحاد بين أهل الجهاد" والمعني بذلك جهاد الأمير شكيب أرسلان من أجل حرية العرب، وخروجه من أسر المستعمر الأجنبي. وعندما كتب الأمير هذه المقالات كان مقيماً بجنيف في سويسرا، لمعارضته للإستعمارين الفرنسي والبريطاني، وعمله الدؤوب من اجل إزالة الإنتدابات. أما المقالات، فتتضمن أربعة موضوعات: -الحملة على الإستعمارين الفرنسي والبريطاني. –إيضاح الخطوات التي قام بها ، وقام بها المجاهدون العرب لإخراج المستعمرين. –الدفاع عن نفسه في مواجهة الإتهامات التي كانت تقول إنه عميل ألماني أو إيطالي. –تأتي أهمية شر رسائل ومقالات الأمير شكيب أرسلان خلال الحرب، من كونها توضح غموض بعض الأحداث، وتكشف ما التبس على الفهم، وتعطي فكرة كيف كان المعنيون بالشأن العام يعملون من أجل إجلاء القوات الأجنبية، والذي كان الأمير من أشدهم إخلاصاً للقضية العربية.
