تم نشر روايتي "طوارق" باللغة العربية وشكل هذا بالنسبة لي فرحاً مضاعفاً، لأنها أول ترجمة إلى لغة ذات نطاق واسع، ويضاف إلى ذلك أنها طبعة جميلة ومتقنة.
لست قادراً للأسف على قراءتها في هذه اللغة، لكن جميع من قرأها أكدوا لي أن ترجمة عبدو زغبور لها هي ترجمة لامعة، وتحافظ من البداية إلى النهاية على التوتر الروائي فيها. دار النشر ذاتها والمترجم ذاته يصران الآن على خوض مغامرة نشر "عيون الطوارق" والشيء الوحيد الذي أتمناه هو أن تكون النتيجة رائعة كما حصل حتى الآن.
لا يوجد شيء بالنسبة للكاتب يضاهي أهمية أن يعلم أن ما كتبه بصل إلى أكبر عدد ممكن من القراء، بشكل جدير وأمين للنص الأصلي كما هو الحال.
قضيت العشرين سنة الأولى من حياتي في أفريقيا، والقسم الأعظم منها عايشت فيه قبائل الطوارق في الصحراء، ومن هنا تأتي معرفتي بطريقة حياتهم وببعض التقاليد التي أشعر تجاهها بميل خاص.
إن حقيقة أن يقرأ ما كتبته عنهم طارقي واحد بلغته فحسب سيملؤني بالاعتزاز.
