في روايته "صحراء الطوارق في المدنية" ينحو الكاتب موسى حج أساريد منحى أسلوب السيرة، أو المذكرات، أي كتابة رواية، والسرد، باستخدام ضمير المتكلم، فها هو بطله يقدم نفسه للقارىء "ولدت في مضرب للبدو بين تومبوكتو وغاو، شمال مالي، قضيت شبابي كله وأنا أجوب الرمال على الجمال والماعز (...) لم أعرف سوى الأفق اللانهائي والليالي تحت الخيمة ونار الحطب ...". ثم يستمر الكاتب في وصف الشخصية ويذكر أحوالها وعواطفها وأخبارها، مجدداً ملامحها العامة، مع تقديم أفعالها وأعمالها بأسلوب الحكاية والخبر "بعض الأصدقاء من أنخرس، الذين تعرفت عليهم في باماكو أرسلوا لي دعوة لآتي إليهم، كنتُ أقترب من حلمي. لم يبقَ لي سوى أن أحصل على النقود اللازمة للسفر ...". وهكذا استطاع بطل أساريد الدخول إلى فرنسا، ليكتشف عالماً آخر غير الصحراء. إذ يقول: "غير أني عشت في فرنسا صدمة ثقافية حقيقية. كان العالم يمد إليّ ذراعيه"، ويلخص تاريخه الشخصي بأن يقول إنها لقيمة لا تقدر بثمن أن تكبر في كون يهرب إلى الزمن، وأن تكتشف بالتالي حضارات تبعد الواحدة منها كل البعد عن الأخرى، كل هذه الفوارق تزيد الحياة غنىً، غير أننا نحن البدور، الرجال الأحرار الذين لا عمر لهم، نجد أن الزمن يهددنا ...". عبر هذا الفضاء يطلق أساريد لبطله حرية القول، فيتدفق السرد في الرواية على هيئة تداعيات تمثل الشكل الذي تتشكل فيه أفكار الشخصية والعالم الذي تدور حوله بما فيه من تناقضات. فمرة يعود إلى الصحراء وقيمها، وأخرى إلى العالم الحديث الذي ينوجد فيه "فرنسا" ، فيقترب السارد من هواجس البطل وأحلامه، وقلقه، وفلسفته في الحياة، وجذوره التي لم ينسها، فهو نتيجة حبه لصحرائه وانتمائه لقبيلته يدرك أن البقاء في هذا العصر لا يمكن أن يستمر من خلال القطيعة مع روح العصر، وهذا هو السبب في كفاحه "ففي كل سنة تفقد الصحراء قليلاً من حياتها، وهذا هو السبب في كفاحي من أجل أن يذهب أطفال الطوارق إلى المدرسة" ويختتم الفقرة بقوله: "أشعر بالفخر لكوني طوارقياً أعيش في فرنسا".
