هذا الديوان هو بمثابة إعتراض على الحداثة، وإعلان لا هوادة فيه عن الإنتماء إلى الينابيع الصافية والحروف الأولى، لم يستلهم صاحبه التراث ليسكن فيه، ولا اقتفى أثر القوافل ليعبر إلى البادية دون رجعة، ففي غنائياته الملتزمة تعبير مضمر عن الرغبة بالتحرر والإنعتاق، لكن على هواه وحسب طريقته؛ ومن خلال محاورة عصرٍ أغلب باب الإجتهاد وجعل لكل شيء إتجاهاً واحداً وخياراً يتيماً.
ولعله وظّف فائض اللغة لديه للقول بأنّ سلطان الزمن لا تطال الأرواح الهائمة، ولا الصور المقيمة خارج متناول الوعي وبمنأى عن قبضة العقل المجرد.
صور كهذه من حقها أن تنكشف حسبما تريد، وتتسرب كما تشاء، فتنبعث إنبعاثاً لا تحده تهويمات النقاد وأرباب المدارس والمذاهب، ولا تمسك بتلابيبه الأنماط الشائعة والأساليب المألوفة، لكأن الشعر بالنسبة إليه نزعة فردية خارج سياق التاريخ والمجتمع، يتطور على نحو دائري متقلب، يتصل أوله بآخره، ويتعاقب قديمه وجديده على رتبة الإبداع والتألق والخلق.
لقد أسقط من حسابه ما طرأ على الشعر من تحولات وولادات، فانتمى دون تردد إلى القصيدة التقليدية، فعل ذلك بذكاء وإحتراف مبكرين ونزقين، وبزخم شعري شكل إضافة إلى هذا النوع المنحسر من القصائد، بل منحه مبرراً للبقاء وأسباباً للإستمرار.
