يشكّل كتاب "الإسلاميون العراقيون بين القصور والتقصير" لمؤلفه (مختار الأسدي) مقاربة نقدية للواقع السياسي والقوى الإسلامية قبل وبعد سقوط نظام الحكم السابق في العراق.
فالمؤلف يعتبر كتابه صفحات حزينة تؤشر لمرحلة زمنية حساسة ساد فيها "الصالحون" ولم تسُد "المصلحون"، وتحكم فيها "الصلاح" ولم يحكم "الإصلاح". هذا إن لم نقل تحكم الصالحون على حساب المصلحين، وانتشر "الصلاح" على حساب الإصلاح مع حسن الظن بالصلاح والصالحين طبعاً".
في الكتاب جملة مقالات تنطوي تحتها عناوين متعددة ومتنوعة يطال بها المؤلف الإسلاميون العراقيون في اجتهاداتهم وفتاواهم، وتفسيراتهم.
محتويات الكتاب: قسّم المؤلف كتابه إلى أربعة عناوين ينطوي تحت كل عنوان مجموعة من المقالات وهي 1- المراهنة على الحل السياسي وتسطيح الحالة الجهادية، 2- الترف الإقتصادي والإعلامي وانكماش الشعور بالمسؤولية الرسالية، 3- الإستبداد والفردية وفقدان التنسيق بين الفصائل السياسية الفردية والإستبداد (80 تنظيماً عراقياً في المهجر)، 4- (نقاط ضوء) تحكي الحكاية كلها.
