يدرس المؤلف فى هذا الكتاب حالة الاسلاميين التقدميين فى تونس فقدنا تأخر الاسلاميين فى الجانب الاحيانى والسياسى فى المغرب العربى عنهما فى المشرق وقد عاد ذلك الى الاندماج الذى استمر فى بلدان المغرب لفترة اطول بين الحركتين الوطنية والاسلامية وبالتالى افادة اسلامى المغرب من تجارب زملائهم المشارقه الى حد ما ومن اسباب وعوامل الاختلاف بين المشرق والمغرب واختلاف تأثيرات الحرب البارده عليهما وان الاسلاميين المغاربة كانوا أكثر معرفة بالعصر والعالم من زملائهم المشارقة بيد ان التنوع الظاهر هذا ليس على اطلاقه فالتحشد والتشدد والتأصيل مرحلة مرت بها سائر حركات الاسلام السياسيى وقد غير الاسلام الاحيائى الذى تاسس عليه الاسلام السياسى عبر علاقات المسلمين بدينهم فى العقود الخمسة الاخيرة ويتناول التغيير مفاهيم رؤية العالم وعلاقات الدين بالدولة بالشريعة والنظر باعمل تحول الاسلام من أسلوب حياة وعيش الى مجموعة من الرموز والعقائد والحيوات الجماعية .
