من أجل نشر الثقافة الديموغرافية والتعريف بأهمية البيانات الديموغرافية حاولنا أن نقدم البعض من البيانات الأساسية الديموغرافية المتعلقة بالشعب العربي، وذلك على شكل خرائط وأشكال بيانية توضيحية، فكان هذا الأطلس.
حيث تضمن مؤشرات عن سكان الوطن العربي وتوزيعهم الجغرافي بين الأقطار العربية من عام 1950، مطلع النصف الثاني من هذا القرن، ثم التطور الذي حصل في السكان العرب في 1975 و1990، 1995 ومؤشرات استندت إلى الإسقاطات السكانية حتى عام 2000 وحتى عام 2010 أحياناً.
وشمل مؤشرات الحركة السكانية المتمثلة بشكل رئيس بالحركة الطبيعية، فقد أشار الأطلس إلى معدلات الولادات ما بين 1950- 2000 وكذلك معدلات الوفيات لذات الفترة، ثم حساب المعدلات للزيادة الطبيعية فيما بعد.
وتضمن الأطلس مؤشرات عن السكان النشطين إقتصادياً وعن العاملين بغير الزراعة وعن إعداد السكان في مراحل الدراسة، الإبتدائية والثانوية والمعاهد والجامعات، وعن النسبة النوعية أي الجنسية كما يطلق عليها أحياناً، واخيراً أهرام السكان لكل الأقطار العربية لعام 1990 ولإسقاطات هذه الأهرام حتى عام 2000م.
