كان جالسًا مصدومًا حزينًا، فللمرة الثانية في السنوات الأخيرة يتم رفض طلبه للحصول على تأشيرة زيارة لدولة غربية. يبدو أن تخصصله هو الحصول على رفض لكل تأشيراته إلى الدول الغربية. المرة الأولى كانت من السفارة البريطانية أيام دراسته في الجامعة، وها هو ذا الرفض يأتيه من السفارة الكندية هذه المرة، حيث عاملته الموظفة الكندية صغيرة القد بفظاظة وعصبية. صاحت فيه وهو يحاول يشرح لها، لدرجة أن موظفتين مصريتين شابتين تعملان في السفارة- من الواضح أنهما قبطيتان- قد وقفتا خلف الموظفة وهما تنظران إلى المشهد الذي استرعى انتباههما. كان لديه ما يثبت أن له حسابًا في البنك بقيمة 2,306 دولارًا وضعت له أمس، كما أرى الموظفة 3,000 جنيه لمصاريف السفر ورسوم التأشيرة ودعوة من أخته المقيمة هناك منذ ثلاث سنوات، ورسالة مفبركة من عمه صاحب مكتب الاستيراد والتصدير الذي فتحه بلا عمل حقيقي يقول فيها أنه يعمل لديه، وأن راتبه (الذي يسمى "المرتب" في مصر) يبلغ 1,200 جنيه شهريًا، ولو كان لديه هذا الراتب ما فكر في السفر والعمل بأي شيء.
إذن، فلم ينطل الأمر على موظفة التأشيرات بالسفارة التي لولا الحاجز الزجاجي بينهما لكانت صفعته فيما يبدو. ماذا يريدون بعد كل هذا؟ واستعاد كلمات الموظفة: "لقد تم وضع هذا الرصيد أمس، وليس لديك تاريخ في السفر إلى أي دولة في أوروبا أو أميركا الشمالية- دعك من السعودية التي تتحدث عنها! (كانت تشير إلى كلامه وما يثبته جواز سفره الأول من إقامته في السعودية للعمل بها لمدة ثلاث سنوات قبل القدوم إلى هنا للدراسة مرة أخرى. لا يدري ما سر هذا الحقد على السعودية. ربما بسبب نظامها الإسلامي) كذلك فقد كذبت عندما قلت أنك لم تقدم طلبًا للهجرة."
