"يعود من غربته؛ فيصطدم بتقاليد مزعومة، وعجوزٌ تعزف، وطيور في الأجواء تغرد... وأخرى لا تهبط، وطائرات لا تحلق، وأخرى لا تهبط، وما بين (رامي ورامي)... يكون العشاء الأخير، فيعود البطل قبل حفلة الميلاد، ويظهر عمر في الحياة الأخرى؛ وفي رحلة العودة... يكون الإختطاف مؤقت".
لعل هذا المقتبس ينبأ عن رواية (إختطاف) لا يسلم كاتبها "صهيب الرفاعي" مفاتيحها إلى القارئ بسهولة، بل يجعله في حيرة، تجعله يبحث عن أسرارها فهل ثمة إختطاف حقيقي أم لا؟ ولماذا هذه الفوضى في المقصورة الخلفية للطائرة، والضجيج من المقصورة الأمامية؟... هل هناك فرق في جسم الطائرة؟... وهناك بالقرب من المطار كانت النيران تشتعل في كل مكان، وانتشر الخبر... سقوط طائرة شحن عملاقة بعد ستين ثانية من إقلاعها!". ليتبين لاحقاً أن سبب سقوط الطائرة كان خطأ بشرياً وبتفصيل أكثر كان سوء تواصل ما بين القبطان ومساعده أدى إلى سقوط الطائرة.
تدور أحداث الرواية بين عالم الطيران وعالم البشر، وترصد رحلة العودة لعائلة عربية على متن طائرة من مانشستر البريطانية إلى دبي العربية، بطل الرواية رامي الذي يبدأ بسرد قصة حياته مع أهله وأصدقاؤه وجيرانه، يرسل خلالها أفكاراً هي عبارة عن عقد مقارنة بين المجتمع الغربي والمجتمع الشرقي، حيث تواجه العائلة عند عودتها من الغربة عادات وتقاليد إجتماعية جديدة، أما رامي فيستمر ورفاقه في تطوير أنفسهم وإنجاز مشاريعهم من دون أن ينسوا أنفسهم وسط زحمة الحياة ومسؤولياتها...
أما الشيء الطريف أن حادثة إحتراق الطائرة كان حلماً: "خطى خطوتين إلى الخارج ثم عاد ونظر إلى المقدمة، وقال عجباً، باب قمرة القيادة مفتوح فعلاً!... كل ذلك كان حلماً! خرج وهو يتنفس الصعداء ولمح لوحة بالخط العريض كتب عليها، ولكم تونيو كاسل".
