يحتوى هذا المؤلف على ملخص للمحاضرات التى أعددناها لإلقاءها, خلال العام الجامعى 1994-1995, على طلبة كلية الحقوق فى مقرر قانون النزاعات المسلحة الدولية. وقد حاولنا, بقدر المستطاع, هنا أن نأخذ فى الإعتبار حاجة الطالب الذى يبدأ فى دراسة تلك المادة دون المساس, مع ذلك, بما تفرضه المقتضيات المبدأية للدراسة العلمية الجامعية.
والحقيقة أن دراسة قانون النزاعات المسلحة الدولية تفترض عندنا وجوب بيان الأطر التى تتبلور من خلال مجالات إعمال ذلك القانون. تلك المجالات تتمثل هنا, ولأغراض تلك الدراسة, فى مجالات أربعة. فهى تتمثل,من جانب, فى المجال الزمانى لسريان قانون النزاعات المسلحة الدولية. وهى تتمثل, من جانب آخر, فى المجال الشخصى لسريان ذلك القانون. وهى تتمثل, من جانب ثالث, فى المجال الجغرافى لسريان ذلك الأخير. وهى ترتكز, أخيرا, على بيان النطاق المادى لسبل الحرب المشروعة فى ظل قانون النزاعات المسلحة الدولية ذاته.
